They were worried about losing both starting tackles, and signed Simmons.

(Sort of the way they extended Kevin Colbert's contract in 2006 when they couldn't come to terms with Cowher, although the latter was a better move.)

Perhaps it was the right move to make, then. Simmons was not a world beater, but he had servicable skills.

As for Kemo, I don't know. I am not an expert on salary levels, but his contract was not huge by current NFL standards.KThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11407272159389023362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8694339605194166992.post-54255931826601625732009-03-29T02:12:00.000-02:002009-03-29T02:12:00.000-02:00if you google Kendall Simmons, Jerry Micco, and Pr...if you google Kendall Simmons, Jerry Micco, and Praveen, a question was asked in the post gazette chat in October whether Steelers might consider cutting Simmons. (Sometime around OCt 2008)

I always wondered if Steelers gave him that contract to compensate for losing Faneca.

I will say this. I totally got it wrong on Kemo. I thought Steelers would have loved getting a comp pick if some team like the Jets made the ridiculous offer they did.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
